RANTHAMBHORE-KANHA-NAGARAHOLE, INDIA
Nature-based tourism is a booming industry in India. We examined the interest and awareness among visitors, and the potential for ecotourism to provide conservation benefits in Nagarahole, Kanha and Ranthambore reserves. Most tourists were Indian nationals. The main reasons for visiting reserves were opportunities to see nature, tigers and scenic beauty. Many believed that local people benefit from the reserves, whereas in reality local benefits were limited. Our results showed the potential for growth in wildlife tourism and support for conservation among tourists. But there is also substantial need for increasing education and awareness about conservation issues in India. The published study can be accessed here.
